After the announcement of a number of commercial banks about reducing deposit interest rates during the meeting on credit for the real estate market at the State Bank held last week, earlier this week, a number of commercial banks started initially moved to reduce deposit interest rates. Although the new interest rates have only been reduced for 6-month and 12-month terms for online savings, while the deposit rates listed at the counters are kept at the same level by these two banks.
All four banks Agribank, Vietcombank, VietinBank and BIDV are announcing on the website and at the counter the interest rate of 7.4%/year for 12-month term deposits. This interest rate has been maintained by banks for many months.
Specifically, Agribank's listed deposit interest rates for 6-month and 12-month terms are 6.1%/year and 7.4%/year, respectively. The online deposit interest rate for these terms is also reduced to the same as the listed interest rate of the bank instead of higher than before.
At Vietcombank, the online deposit interest rate has only decreased for a 12-month term, equal to the rate listed for customers depositing at the counter. Accordingly, the 12-month term interest rate at the counter and online is at 7.4%/year.
Currently, there is still a rather high difference in interest rates for over-the-counter and online deposits.
The 12-month term interest rate at BIDV and VietinBank is 7.4% as listed, 8.2%/year paid online. The difference in 6-month term is up to 1.8% when the interest rate for over-the-counter deposit is 6%, online deposit is 7.8%. At Vietcombank, the difference in interest rates for over-the-counter deposit with 1-month term online is 1.1% (4.9%-6%); 3-month term difference of 0.6%; 9 month term difference 0.5%. Meanwhile, two other state-owned commercial banks, VietinBank and BIDV, have yet to lower interest rates. With the reduction of deposit rates in some terms, the online deposit interest rate for 06 months at Agribank is currently 0.4% lower than at Vietcombank, and 1.7% lower than VietinBank and BIDV.
